Glorious Backstage Arts

Glorious Backstage Arts

Glorious Backstage Arts is a voluntary sector organisation based in the north London Borough of Islington. Established in 1998 by Angela Slocumbe. GBA evolved in response to a lack of local youth provision for teenagers and young people in the area. Because playing Mas at the Notting Hill Carnival is a ‘valid’ ageless activity, and nothing similar already existed locally the idea of creating a local Carnival Mas Camp to which anyone both in and out of the borough might feel comfortable joining took shape. In 2004 we began working collaboratively with Bandleaders from Jamboulay Carnival Arts Promotion, Fusion Community Carnival Arts and the Barbados Carnival Committee to develop carnival projects and support for new and emerging groups and practitioners. In 2012 a project supporting Colville Primary School Developed. KCS, The Harrow Club, Henry Dickens Community Centre home to LCAT and GBA are working to build upon the inclusive carnival arts activities featuring signed choreography commenced during 2020
