Arts Council England on Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival has been called many things: street party, foodie heaven, neighbourhood nuisance. One thing’s for certain – it is a celebration of art, culture and place unlike any other in the world.

As this globally recognised Carnival celebrates its 50th year, we talk to three authorities in the sector:

  • Ansel Wong, former Chair of the Notting Hill Carnival Board

  • Ruth Tompsett, who taught Carnival studies at Middlesex University and is now working on the Carnival Archive

  • And Tara Hobson, Director of Carnival Village Trust in London.

  • Chaired by Richard Ings, Relationship Manager Combined Arts, Arts Council England.
