Tribo

Wearing hand-made costumes inspired by indigenous Amazonian tribes people, Tribo drummers will be show-casing authentic samba reggae rhythms which originated from the black pride movement in the city of Salvador de Bahia, around 1969. Bahia's population has a large proportion of dark-skinned Brazilians who are descendants of African slaves brought to Brazil by the Portuguese in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Afro-Brazilian people played a major role in the early development of Samba, which first took form in a Bahian style of dance and music called Samba de Roda. One of Tribo’s aims is to encourage cultural exchange between Europe and Brazil, sharing knowledge of the roots of samba reggae, its significance for the black population and the positive benefits for communities.
