Latin Rave Street Jam

DJ Sylvester got his first taste of Jazz-Funk/ Fusion & Latin jazz music in Crackers Club at Wardour St, London when he was at school in the 1970s. He started by purchasing some of the popular records being played at the time and before long had acquired a very large personal collection. The following years were a transitional period where he was well known on the dancing scene, with a preference for what was termed as “jazz fusion”. This was jazz with infused with high energy up tempo rhythms and an abundance of Latin influences. Starting out in as a DJ at pubs, bars and small functions, it was not long before Sylvester had built up a bit of a reputation. As a youngster, he teamed up with DJ Gilles Peterson at the Electric Ballroom in London and also started performing regular sets at a string of London's most iconic nightclubs (e.g. 100 Club, Scala Cinema, Dingwalls, Bass Clef and the Wag Club to name but a few). Rest assured that to be found performing at such classic joints would have been a most incredible achievement at the time. After running club nights at various venues spinning mostly Latin jazz and Afro Cuban music, Dj Sylvester created the Latin Street Jam Sound System designed specifically in order to participate at Latin Rave's first Notting Hill Carnival in 1989. The Carnival site is now famous for having a team of experienced professional DJs. Over the years DJs contributing in the development of Latin Rave Sound System include Baz fe Jazz, John Armstrong, Dominique, Jerry Lyseight, Luis 'Mr Bongo' Libres, Julian the Duke, Jose Luis and Ramiro. Hucker (R.I.P) is another who had also developed a passion for Latin, African and Brazilian music. He is a dedicated member of the Latin Rave carnival crew. He is also one of London's leading Cuban-Brazillian DJs who regularly brings in the punters at capacity events where Latin Rave expertly deliver these delightful and 'sambarific' forms. The Latin Rave Sound System is another of the BASS systems that is truly unique. It is the only sound system that caters for Latin Music and it attracts hundreds of the genres music lovers over the two performance days.
