The Big Weekender – celebrating all things carnival, music, community and home, in partnership with Tate Britain – 3 & 4 August 2024

Taking place at Tate Britain on 3 & 4 August 2023, this festival is inspired by Alvaro Barrington’s Grace commission at Tate Britain this summer. It is part of their Gather Together event series.

Family Day

Saturday 3 August 11.00–16.00

Calling all families with children ages 0-16 to come along on Family Day to paint, hear stories, dance and move outside and around Tate Britain.

Take part in an interactive large-scale game with A Line Art, puppet-making with Swallow’s Wings theatre company and a special appearance by young people fresh from Kinetika Bloco’s Junior Summer School.

Grab some snacks from the food trucks or take a picnic to this outdoor adventure of storytelling, painting and performance!

Block Party

Saturday 3 August 16.00–22.00

Join the block party! A day of music and performance warming up the carnival vibes at Tate Britain, co-produced with Tate Collective Producers.

Explore the galleries in a new way with music and workshops inside and outside the gallery. For a true carnival experience the variety of food trucks and drinks on offer, paired with a mix of sound system energy.

Sunday Social

Sunday 4 August 11.00–17.00

Come and unwind at the Sunday Social.

It’s all about good vibes as legendary steel drum players liven up the scene. Bounce to Saxon Sound System and let the food trucks tempt you. Meander through the galleries and outdoor spaces, soak in the carnival atmosphere and enjoy the perfect blend of art, music, and community.
