Jeffrey Hinds

Born in Reading from Barbadian Parents who came to England in 1956.

Introduced my Primary School (Oxford Rd) to Steel Band Music in 1971.
Upon leaving Secondary School was a part of the Sound System Movement in Reading and co-founded Emperor Town Hi Fi Sound System in 1977.

Turned to my first music love of Steel Band and formed The Star Rhapsody
Steel Band in 1982 which continues to this day. Highlights were appearing at Glastonbury in 1989, touring Malta in 1990 and performing at the Notting Hill Carnival in 1983 & 84.

Entered the field of Calypso in 1985 and was a Co-Founder of the Association of British Calypsonians in 1991.

Held various positions on the Reading Community Carnival from 1985 to 2002.

Founded AJ's Calypso Tent in 2003 which continues to this day.

Was crowned UK Calypso Monarch in 2018 after singing my composition - The Windrush Generation in the Calypso Monarch Final I was also proclaimed the London Calypso Tent King of that year (most popular).

Host of 'The Real Caribbean Gold Show' on Unity Live Radio every Sunday
between 9pm and 11pm from 2021 to the present.

Became a Justice of the Peace in 2003 - to the present

Professional Boxing Referee & Judge from 1990 to the present.
